2009/10 FIXTURES

The fixtures for the coming season have now been agreed and ours are available on this site. The last few weeks have seen a good deal of debate as to where the 2nds will play this season. The SRU gave little warning of a deadline to decide if we wished to join the National 2nd XV setup again, and after much debate this was declined after we were advised we would at best join it at Dividion 4 if not Division 5 (how Melrose and Hawick both get to join in Division 2 is a topic of much discussion, especially with Gala A winning our league last year. As a result of Melrose and Hawick 2nds pulling out of the local setup and the remaining Clubs being given a completely different offer with regard to the joining mechanism it was agreed to continue with the Border Farm Supplies Championship. As a result of last season's difficulties in turning out a 2nd XV Berwick have withdrawn from the league altogether. Melrose have deemd everyone elses 2nds good enough for their 3rds (Melrose 'Knights') and were granted their participation. Rather than have an odd number of teams taking part Selkirk have offered their 3rd XV to make it even numbers (Selkirk Stormers) which was also accepted, giving 8 teams in total, and yes it does mean 2 from Selkirk but ensures a full fixture list for all. In order to ensure a full fixture list the season will start with a Cup involving all teams in 2 pools with play-offs between all positions in each pool for final standings. This will be followed by the Border Farm Supplies Championship in its normal league format with play-offs and final at the end of the season. Guid luck Gala A - here's to a repeat of last season.
