News Title RESULTS: PEEBLES (19-APR-15)
24 April 2015
P3 Report ********** Played 3 W2 D0 L1 The P3 Mini Maroons arrived at Peebles in confident mood, with a favourable group draw it looked as though they could well progress to the final for the first time this season. A few rule changes did little to deter the P3's as they surged to a 5 - 2 victory over hosts Peebles in their first game. Bigger were next and buzzing from an impressive all round first match performance the Mini Maroons took to the pitch ready to go. It was however, Biggar who took the early lead and unfortunately the Minis were never able to get on top in the match as Biggar ran out 6 - 5 winners. With a final place still within their grasp the P3's rounded off their group matches with a highly impressive 5 - 1 victory against Langholm. Unfortunately for the boys Biggar finished the group without defeat and progressed to the final. P4 Report ********** Played 4 W2 D1 L1 RUNNERS-UP The P4's played exceptionally well in their pool games against Peebles (Peebles 4 – Gala 9), Kelso (Kelso 4 – Gala 4) and Moffat (Moffat 4 – Gala 7) all very tough competitive matches. It was a tough final against a very good Selkirk side who won 6-2. The players certainly put their bodies on the line through some very good tackling and support play throughout the day. The coaches were delighted to see some great scores through good continuity and support. Great effort all round and we can look forward our own tournament this weekend. P5 Report ********** Played 4 W3 D0 L1 RUNNERS-UP Firstly a very well done to all that played for the P5 Gala Mini Maroons at Peebles on Sunday. They all played exceptionally well and showed everyone how proud they are to play for Gala. We played a pool format this week playing Peebles, Selkirk and Bigger. The boys played Peebles first, with both teams running the ball well but we won in the end 8-4. Next was Selkirk and with exactly the same type of game we won 8-4 again. Then we played Bigger. This was the team that beat us last year in the final and emotions were running high. The boys tackled everything and fought for every ball and at half time was 2-2. Second half was a very physical half but we scored 2 tries to win 4-2. I don't know who was happier, the players or supports with cheers erupting from everywhere. The boys were exhausted but they had reached the FINAL. Kelso were the opposition again and it was always going to be another dog fight. Again both teams battled well and at half time it was 2-1 to Kelso. Second half played well but you could tell the boys were tired now. We levelled the game quite quickly and then camped on their line for much of the second half. In the end the game went the way of Kelso with them winning 4-2. The boys were disappointed but had played their best this season. I can't pick any one player out this week for special mention as it was a team effort and everyone played their part. But we did come away from Peebles with a trophy for best FAIR PLAY TEAM in P5 so the team should be very proud of themselves. Well done all. P6 Report ********** Played 3 W1 D1 L1 The Peebles Piranha's Rugby Tournament was the 3rd major tournament of 2015 for the P6 Gala Mini Maroons (after the snow cancelled Langholm Lions tournament last week) and the boys again played with great determination. Group Stage The opening game was against Peebles Reds with the Gala P6 proving too strong and running out winners by 5-0. Next up was Jed and despite Gala P6 taking the lead on three occasions full time saw a 3-3 draw being recorded. The final group game was against Selkirk which, barring a draw, was to decide the team to move forward to the final of the P6 tournament. A very close fought affair saw Selkirk take the lead only for Gala to quickly reply. The game went into half time at 1-1. Selkirk started the 2nd half well scoring two early tries before Gala set camp on the Selkirk line. Unfortunately a strong Selkirk defence saw Gala fail to score and the final whistle sounded with the score unchanged at 1-3 to Selkirk. Selkirk went on to win the tournament. Summary A good display by the P6 Gala team who fought hard throughout the tournament. Lots of great chances were created and on another day many more tries would have been scored. P7 Report ********** Played 3 W3 D0 L0 WINNERS Firstly the team secured a win against Selkirk playing very well. A slow start followed against Langholm but the pace got quicker and a win was achieved. Those two wins qualified the team for the final against Selkirk. This was a hard game but resulted in triumph for Gala. Overall a good team performance, digging in when under pressure. P3 Report ********** Played 3 W2 D0 L1 The P3 ...

News Title RESULTS: KELSO (29-MAR-15)
01 April 2015
P3 Report ********** Played 4: W3 D0 L1 The P3's were on top form on Sunday at Kelso and only through a combination of good individual skills from the opposition and some dubious decision making (particularly from the Gala coach) denied the team a place in the final. First up was Hawick which ended as a 2 - 1 loss. Then followed a 3 - 0 win against Duns, a 2 - 1 win against Kelso and a 3 - 0 win versus Jed. Excellent defence restricted the opposition to very few scoring opportunities and good handling, strong running and great teamwork meant the P3 were able to make the most of the scoring chances that presented themselves. P4 Report ********** Played 5: W3 D1 L1 RUNNERS-UP A great result for the P4s. In the pool games they drew against Hawick with a high scoring 4-4. Then a good 5-2 win against Duns, 4-1 win against Kelso and 3-2 against Jed. This was good enough to go through to the final in which Selkirk beat Gala 3-1. P5 Report ********** Played 4: W2 D0 L2 Well it was another story of so close for the Gala P5 squad. With Gala, Kelso and Hawick all in one pool it was anyone's guess who would progress. We faced Hawick first but narrowly lost 3-2 but with some great rugby played by both teams it was great to watch. Then followed Duns with some great running rugby and Gala won that 4-1. Kelso followed, and with what seems to be the exciting trend, it was end-to-end stuff. Unfortunately Gala lost 5-3 but with two close efforts late on it could have been totally different. The last game was against Marr. Gala gave it their all and showed great rugby again and put Marr to the sword 6 tries to nil. A great try count for the team with 4 tries for Jordan Corry and Fraser Wilson, 3 tries for Louis Marshall and Alex Laurie and a single try for Matthew Lindores, a great day was had by all. P6 Report ********** Played 4: W4 D0 L0 WINNERS The Kelso Cougar's Rugby Tournament was the 2nd 2015 fixture for the P6 Gala Mini Maroons and the boys played with great determination. Group Stage The opening game was against Hawick with the Gala P6 proving too strong and running out winners by 4 tries to 2. Next up was Kelso and with the crowd playing their part in supporting the home team they proved a stuffy opposition. Full time saw a 2-2 draw being recorded which really suited neither team. The final group game was against Marr which, barring a draw, was to decide the team to move forward to the final of the P6 tournament. A very close fought affair saw no tries until the final 2 minutes when Gala P6 ran in what was to be the only score of the game taking them into the final against Melrose. Final The Gala P6 made a great start to the final but against the run of play Melrose took the lead with a score to the corner (0-1). Gala came out impressively from the restart and were quick to equalise (1-1). A period of Gala dominance led to another Gala try (2-1) and the rest of the game was played in the middle of the park until the final whistle sounded to leave Gala P6 as champions. Summary A great display by the P6 Gala team to be crowned champions of Kelso after the loss to Selkirk in last week’s final. This performance was excellent with running, passing and tackling to a very high standard. P7 Report ********** Played 3: W1 D1 L1 Three pool games were played today. There was a hard fought 0-0 against Hawick followed up by a good 4-0 win against Duns. Gala’s last game for the day was against Kelso which resulted in a 1-0 loss. Lots of positives but luck just didn’t go the way of Gala today. Melrose beat Kelso in the final. P3 Report ********** Played 4: W3 D0 L1 The P ...
