News Title RESULTS: KELSO (29-MAR-15)
01 April 2015
P3 Report ********** Played 4: W3 D0 L1 The P3's were on top form on Sunday at Kelso and only through a combination of good individual skills from the opposition and some dubious decision making (particularly from the Gala coach) denied the team a place in the final. First up was Hawick which ended as a 2 - 1 loss. Then followed a 3 - 0 win against Duns, a 2 - 1 win against Kelso and a 3 - 0 win versus Jed. Excellent defence restricted the opposition to very few scoring opportunities and good handling, strong running and great teamwork meant the P3 were able to make the most of the scoring chances that presented themselves. P4 Report ********** Played 5: W3 D1 L1 RUNNERS-UP A great result for the P4s. In the pool games they drew against Hawick with a high scoring 4-4. Then a good 5-2 win against Duns, 4-1 win against Kelso and 3-2 against Jed. This was good enough to go through to the final in which Selkirk beat Gala 3-1. P5 Report ********** Played 4: W2 D0 L2 Well it was another story of so close for the Gala P5 squad. With Gala, Kelso and Hawick all in one pool it was anyone's guess who would progress. We faced Hawick first but narrowly lost 3-2 but with some great rugby played by both teams it was great to watch. Then followed Duns with some great running rugby and Gala won that 4-1. Kelso followed, and with what seems to be the exciting trend, it was end-to-end stuff. Unfortunately Gala lost 5-3 but with two close efforts late on it could have been totally different. The last game was against Marr. Gala gave it their all and showed great rugby again and put Marr to the sword 6 tries to nil. A great try count for the team with 4 tries for Jordan Corry and Fraser Wilson, 3 tries for Louis Marshall and Alex Laurie and a single try for Matthew Lindores, a great day was had by all. P6 Report ********** Played 4: W4 D0 L0 WINNERS The Kelso Cougar's Rugby Tournament was the 2nd 2015 fixture for the P6 Gala Mini Maroons and the boys played with great determination. Group Stage The opening game was against Hawick with the Gala P6 proving too strong and running out winners by 4 tries to 2. Next up was Kelso and with the crowd playing their part in supporting the home team they proved a stuffy opposition. Full time saw a 2-2 draw being recorded which really suited neither team. The final group game was against Marr which, barring a draw, was to decide the team to move forward to the final of the P6 tournament. A very close fought affair saw no tries until the final 2 minutes when Gala P6 ran in what was to be the only score of the game taking them into the final against Melrose. Final The Gala P6 made a great start to the final but against the run of play Melrose took the lead with a score to the corner (0-1). Gala came out impressively from the restart and were quick to equalise (1-1). A period of Gala dominance led to another Gala try (2-1) and the rest of the game was played in the middle of the park until the final whistle sounded to leave Gala P6 as champions. Summary A great display by the P6 Gala team to be crowned champions of Kelso after the loss to Selkirk in last week’s final. This performance was excellent with running, passing and tackling to a very high standard. P7 Report ********** Played 3: W1 D1 L1 Three pool games were played today. There was a hard fought 0-0 against Hawick followed up by a good 4-0 win against Duns. Gala’s last game for the day was against Kelso which resulted in a 1-0 loss. Lots of positives but luck just didn’t go the way of Gala today. Melrose beat Kelso in the final. P3 Report ********** Played 4: W3 D0 L1 The P ...

News Title RESULTS: SELKIRK (22-MAR-15)
24 March 2015
P3 Report ********** Gala Gazelles: P4 W0 D1 L3 Gala Cheetahs: P4 W2 D0 L2 The P3s can be very pleased with their efforts at the Selkirk Rhinos tournament on Sunday. Split into two teams, Gazelles and Cheetahs, each of the boys played almost every minute of every game with both teams finishing off their tournament with back-to-back fixtures in their pool games. Some excellent handling, strong offensive running and good cover defence from both teams epitomised the P3s throughout the tournament. It was only through some inspired play from the opposition that saw them undone in the fixtures which did not go their way. In a strong pool containing Hawick, Kelso, Selkirk Blues and Jedburgh the Gazelles recorded 1 draw and 3 losses. The Cheetahs who were paired with Peebles, Melrose, Selkirk Reds and Duns managed 2 wins and 2 losses with the wins coming in the last fixtures of the pool. P4 Report ********** Gala Gazelles: P4 W3 D0 L1 Gala Cheetahs: P4 W0 D1 L3 Selkirk won the final 3 tries to Kelso’s 1 Overall both squads played very well and the coaches are starting to see that the boys and girls are now starting to put into practice what is being coached. There was some great tackling, support play and open field running. As always there are small areas to work on which we will be doing over the coming weeks such as protecting the ball and keeping our line in defence. However, the coaches are very pleased with all the efforts being put in. P5 Report ********** Gala: P3 W2 D0 L1 P5 played three well contested pool games against Jed, Duns and Kelso at Selkirk on Sunday. In the first of the games against Jed Gala won 5-2. The boys played very well and showed some good rugby. The second game against Duns was a close affair where both teams tackled and tucked very well but Gala eventually came out winners 3-1 scoring two tries near the end to seal the victory. The last of the pool games was against Kelso and was a game that was played very hard and was well contested. Kelso went 3-0 up but Gala fought back very well with Jamie Bell scoring in the corner. Jordan Corry and Matthew Lindores were unlucky towards the end with two great efforts that didn't quite result in tries but had they have been scored the game would have had a great ending. Kelso eventually won the game 4-1. A great day was had by all and the whole squad is looking forward to the Kelso tournament on Sunday. P6 Report ********** Gala: P4 W3 D0 L1 RUNNERS-UP The Selkirk Rhino's Rugby Tournament was the first 2015 fixture for the P6 Gala Mini Maroons and the boys all stuck in well. The opening pool game was against Jed with Gala proving too strong and running out comfortable winners. Next up was an under-strength Duns team who borrowed players from Melrose and Selkirk to achieve the numbers. After a sticky start the Gala improved through the game and, again, achieved a comfortable victory. The final pool game was against Kelso which was to decide the team to move forward to the final of the P6 tournament. A close fought affair ended with Gala taking the honours to progress to the final against the home side Selkirk. In the final itself Gala made a great start led by 1 score to 0 at the halfway stage but a number of injuries and good pressure from the Selkirk squad saw the home side equalise and then take the lead. A further score was added by Selkirk in the dying seconds of the tie to make the final score 3-1 to Selkirk. Summary A great display by the Gala team for their first tournament outing of 2015 who were competitive in every tie. The performance sets the benchmark for the rest of the tournament season and everyone displayed great determination in getting to the final. P7 Report ********** Gala: P4 W3 D0 L1 WINNERS In the pool stage Gala won all their games beating a Barbarians side, Duns and Kelso to qualify for the final. Playing Melrose in a very competitive final Gala scored 4 tries to 2 to win the competition. The team put up a great defence in each of the games and exhibited some fantastic ball movement and retention skills. Overall, a fantastic team performance and to come away with the trophy and a 100% record is something the players and coaches are rightly proud of. P3 Report ********** Gala Gazelles: P4 W0 D1 L3 ...
