The Wands were in Scottish Cup action this weekend in a game with West of Scotland to decide who topped the group for a home tie in the quarter finals. On a very sticky pitch it was West who struck first with an unconverted try 10 minutes in despite some excellent home defending.
Gala replied 5 minutes later with a try of their own through Harris (converted). The majority of the rest of the half was pressure from West but the Gala defending held firm. Just on half time after several phases of play from the Gala pack Sam slid in the corner (unconverted) to give Gala a deserved 12-5 Halftime lead.
However, the effort in the first half seemed to drain the home batteries as West upped the anti right from the off in the second half and within 20 minutes of the restart scored 4 tries to give them a hefty 31-12 advantage going into the final quarter.
One final try to Gala from Rowan (converted) brought back some respectability to the final scoreline: 31-19 to West. Special mention to the forwards who, despite a couple of injury call offs, put in an incredible shift and no doubt some of them will be sore today.
